There is a great deal of talk about “Missional Congregations” but there is not always the same clarity about what is meant by the term. See the “Mission Enablers Blog” for some possible thoughts....

Alongside the need to create congregations configured for mission is the question of missional leadership that is required to make the necessary changes to church structures and local congregations.

From 21-23 November, CWM Europe brought together a group of people who were interested in and experimenting with different shapes of missional congregation. Participants were from congregations that were focussing on specific target groups, developing mission through the internet, growing a missional congregation focusing on through children and family or local community. The workshop was attended by people from different settings with valuable insights to share and who also played a role in helping shape future proposals for the CWM Europe programme “mission shaped church.”

Future possible initiatives include:

  • Developing a shared understanding of the marks of “missional congregations.”
  • Bring together church leaders and theological educators to consider the missional needs of the church and to prepare people for mission in our contexts.
  • Expand opportunities for missional leaders to explore mission in different contexts?
  • Create resources to assist with the development of missional congregations.
