Youth in Mission

Youth in Mission

In light of the continuing decline in numbers of young people in our churches and of the need for the empowerment of young people for leadership, the region wishes to keep youth in mission high on its agenda in future years.

Its aim is to offer young people an opportunity to learn about mission through experience and to do so together with other young people. Three programmes will be offered by the Region. These are:

Mission: Impossible? Project

10th to 31st July 2009 saw 30 young people from CWM Europe churches join with young people from Samoa, Malawi, Singapore and Hungary to take part in a Mission Impossible Project.

The young people spent time exploring mission, making new friendships and considering the place of culture. A main feature of Mission Impossible is to give young people the opportunity to explore mission by being involved in it. Working in partnership with the local church young people could participate in a choice of three practical mission projects - creating a community garden and a large mosaic; leading a children's holiday club and working in a homelessness project. Finally, there was an opportunity for everyone to reflect on their experiences to see what good news would be taken home.

Mission House in Amsterdam

The Mission House is an international community of 8 young people from all over Europe who live together for 10 months in a house in Amsterdam. Each member of the community works full-time as a volunteer in different diaconal (service and caring) projects in the city of Amsterdam. They include projects with migrants, ex-offenders, young people, drug users and homeless people. The Mission House volunteers are needed to support them and to help them live independently.

The Mission House team for 2009-2010 are settling in and enjoying their experience in Amsterdam. To find out more about the Mission House team please visit www.missionhouse.nl or see their newsletter.

We are now recruiting for the Mission House 2010-2011. If you are interested in applying and would like more information, please read the recruitment leaflet and power point presentation or contact CWM Europe for further details. Each Mission House year runs from 1st September - 30th June. To make an application, please fill in an application form and return to your denomination youth office.

Mission Taster Weekend

Two Mission Taster weekends are held annually at the Mission House in Amsterdam. The weekend offers young people who are interested in mission or in the Mission House an opportunity to experience both first hand.

A Mission Taster Weekend is planned for 26-28 February 2010 interested in exploring mission. And another is planned for 21-23 May for those thinking about applying or who have applied for the Mission House in 2010-2011. They will be an opportunity to meet this year's Mission House team, to stay in the House, visit some of the projects and explore what is involved in volunteering for the Mission House.

Interested? Contact CWM Europe or your church youth office.

Plans are already well advanced for the next Mission: Impossible? Project which is to take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands during July and August 2011. Watch the website for details of the Project
